Remote moderated testing awkwardness

Hi,

I’m a not a natural when it comes to small talk with strangers. This makes the begginigns and endings of user testing sessions tricky for me. Any tips?

Ciao Rachel
YEP, I’ve also had this issue before, try writing down a list of questions and brainstorm some conversational ideas that you would like to say during the session, practice them alone then implement them on real life and see how things might go.

Keep in mind that you don’t have to build TONS of rapport from the get-go; you just need to help them feel comfortable talking and “warm them up” before they get started. It can be awkward for them, too, and they may not feel super chatty themselves with someone they don’t even know (much like you).

You don’t need much at the end, either. Thank them for their time, let them know how much you appreciated their insights and that you learned valuable things from them, and ask if they have any questions for you before you bounce. Boom. Done.
