Hi All - I’m new to this site. I’m not a UX professional, per se, but I’m working on a project that could use some input from the UX perspective. Basically, I’m trying to implement a rating system for my website. Most sites tend to go with a standard 5 star rating system, and I want to think really think it through to determine if this is really the most user-friendly approach. Could anyone recommend some literature (books or online articles) that could provide some insight on how to develop a rating scale?

I will admit to having never looked into rating systems before, but your question got me interested so I did some searching.
