When doing affinity mapping I know that you put all your post its anywhere on the wall. My question is if you put together the similar themes first by ordering the post its and then come up with themes/topics for each group? Or do you come up with themes/topics first?
I tend to feel that themes/topics come after the organization exercise. That way there is no “leaning” into a category that is already established. Topics derived after the fact can be more precise. I always leave room for discussion to ask why placement was chosen. It can provide insight into the reasoning and shed light on channels/touch points not discovered.
