As an aside, I’ve always wondered why we have inherited some of the (IMO) more ridiculous US holidays like Valentines and Halloween but not this really amazing and important one.

If it makes you feel any better, a lot of us think Valentines and Halloween are kinda ridiculous, too.

I was in Portland OR the first week of October and I was amazed at how the shops go crazy with the decorations!
