Advice for a high school student

What roles does a UX designer have ???

Hi Ahmad,
Please have a read of the articles that Matt has listed in the post above yours. They will answer some of these questions for you.
Once you’ve done that, feel free to come back if you have more specific questions.

Are information architect, user interface designer, interaction designer and user researcher all UX Designers???

They are not all ‘UX designers’ but they do all work in the field of UX, yes.

So then what is the difference between a UX Designer and the UX field ???

The UX field is very vast, there are different roles that make it up. UX Designer is currently the term used for a variety of different roles within this field. Other roles include Information architecture, interaction design, user interface design. UX Designers tend to be able to do a wider variety of different roles, but can also specialise in a certain area. Whereas those doing IA for instance, specialise in this.

I’m going to be a bit blunt I’m afraid Ahmad. I think you need to do some reading. We’ve supplied you with a number of links, but I’m not sure that you’re following up.

If you’re asking questions like this I’m not sure that you’re anywhere near in a position to decide on a career in UX.

Do some research and then get back to us. We’re more than happy to help out, but you need to do some legwork first.

Hi Ahmad,

I have to agree with Hawk on this one. As a UX Designer myself, I can tell you that self-education and reading is something that you will do for your entire career regardless of what you end up doing. It never stops and nor should it. It’s a good habit to get into now- especially if you intend to pursue further study beyond school.

Please listen to the advice that we have given you, we know what we’re talking about because we were you once and we wouldn’t be where we are without having first done the legwork. There are no shortcuts in life and if you truly think that UX is for you then you must understand that the journey itself is far more important than the destination.

I know it’s hard not to just ask if you don’t know something, but to be perfectly honest with you I always check the articles and resources on the UX Mastery site for answers before throwing it to the community- in fact I did it this afternoon.

I wish you all the best and I really do hope you come back to us.

Are these the fields in UX?

And also ASH I understand what you mean your saying your a Industrial Designer but you also work in one of the UX fields which is user researcher.
