Remote working/working from home

I use Bose noise cancelling headphones. I’ve had them about 8 years and they’re still going strong.

I’m working from home for my internship - and I work almost full time - 30 to 40 hours a week.
The biggest challenge is a lack of communication. Since many other members are also remote, Its very challenging for me to constantly keep in touch with everyone across timezones on Slack.
While Slack is great, its just so much cognitive overload for me to keep a track of everyone else’s work, and still get my work done.

I never had such problems while working directly for clients as a freelancer, but working with a team changes the entire dynamic.

In another job (for an organisation that specialises in collaboration) we use Slack quite differently to most people and it works really well.

We set up project specific channels, keep the channel purpose updated with what stage the project is at, and leave the channel when we’re not actively working on the project. That way, people can call us in if they need specific input, we can scan the channel list for latest updates, and we can rejoin the channel to get a full update if necessary. It works well and reduces that cognitive overload.
