Product UX vs web UX

I’m curious. A number of you have mentioned to me that you are product developers or designers looking to explore UX design. My only experience of it is from a web development angle. What are the main differences? Is the process similar?

My background is also as a web UXer but for a few years now I have been working solely with software and hardware product(s). My short answer to your question; the design work is much the same but often on varying scales however the team work is a completely different world. When working on the web, as a consultant or in-house, there was often a focused team or talent pool assigned to the project. Now on the software side that mix of skills, location and culture is far more expansive and often warranting an agreed upon project vocabulary even internal SME assignments just to help ‘keep the peace’ when conversing or collaborating.
