i'm so glad to find this website & the forum, you guys are total legend! I really admire you guys to spend time encouraging & giving feedback to people who's starting & doing UX.
My name is Maya, I'm a print graphic designer in Sydney (Australia) with more than 3 years design experience. I always have a spark with web & digital design, but I feel like to stand out & really upgrade my skill, it's not enough just to learn how to design beautiful website but I need to know more about it. I know that to be a good designer, we need to understand more about the user & make the design for any interface to be as pleasant experience as possible for them..I think UX really give that weight on the user & i feel this is the right direction for me.
That's how I found out about UX, i also found that it's a very hot & high demand field. I've read some UX books from Smashing e-books, i also notice that UX is still new & I feel it's very natural having graphic design background to learn and explore UX & becoming a UX designer.
I've just accepted to do the UX design immerse course at General Assembly & very excited about it because it's starting in 3 weeks, at the same time I'm panicking because the course is very expensive (i need to pay for the deposit tomorrow & still have to pay bills etc during the course) & even tough they said they're the best course for UX & will teach you everything..i don't know how soon i would get my first job in UX, however after I've done some research, other UX courses (part time) don't seem to give what the GA immerse course will be teaching. I also think that it's a good time for me to do the course now, timewise, some graphic design jobs are pretty quiet as it's heading toward Christmas & usually people is start busy hiring the next year around Feb which is the same time as the GA course finishing.
I appreciate your support & any advise. If you don't mind, can anyone please give suggestion on GA UX immerse course? What do you think about it & have any one got experience doing it or hiring graduates from GA? Any other advise regarding UX career, learning process & job opportunities would be awesome because i'm totally new & really need any good suggestions/advise...Thank so much for reading this & thanks in advance for your reply :))
Have a great day!
