im about to start a new UI role
I have years of experince in photoshop but not much with illustrator (ive never liked it)
My question is- will photoshop be enough to use all the way though a UI project -right up to end deliverables?
Or do the end files have to be vectors?

Congratulations on your new role! I am guessing here, but I would suspect that it depends on the business – it’s probably a question for your new employer.
For what it’s worth, I was also a Photoshop stalwart but made the transition to Illustrator fairly easily once I gave it a go.
