I'm very new here to the UX Mastery community and wanted to introduce myself.
For the past several years (6+) I've been focusing on video production for the web and social media as a solo-preneur but have recently decided to focus on UX and overall content management. Prior to focusing on video I had several interesting career experiences including:
- Web Project Mangement
- Publicist (B2B Media Relations and Entertainment),
- Technical Writing
- Requirements Analysis / Front End Engineering
At age 55, I am probably not the typical "transition-er" but I see lots of crossover between my background and the overall UX field. I've decided to enroll in CareerFoundry's online UX Designer course which starts this coming May. I believe that after graduation my challenge will be that even with that training and a starter UX portfolio - it's pretty unlikely anyone is going to hire me as a junior designer - age wise I mean.
(I contributed my experiences to this this thread on the topic of age and getting into UX on UX Mastery.com)
I've been advised by Paul Boag host of the Boag World podcast to focus instead on the more managerial side of UX and on content management roles on the more senior level where I would more naturally fit in. This sounds like excellent advice to me but I would be eager to hear any other viewpoints - supportive or otherwise
