Can you give us some more info here? What kinds of tips? What problem are you trying to solve?

I would say overall you need to start with clear goals. What do you want NEW users to be able to do? What should RETURNING users be able to do? Imagine the whole flow or path you want them to discover. Then validate your designs with your target audience every step of the way.
